In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Features I used such as puffs and coverlines are used in common magazines, but I chose to use fewer coverlines so the magazine looked more simplistic and easy to understand, it was also less crowded, keeping the main interest on the cover model. I also chose to keep a consistant color scheme which also matched the cover model's clothing. Many magazines choose to keep a consistant color scheme to look more professional.
How does your media represent a particular social group?
By using a friendly, happy looking cover model, of the same age as the target audience I tried to show that the magazine is for everyone, by keeping a relaxed font and funny twist to the articles the target audience was plain to see, with articles such as 'top ten apps for college' it can be seen that the magazine is for students. Because the cover model is wearing a dress we see her feminine side but she also has her sleeves rolled up in a tom-boy-ish way, to help show the range of audience, so the idea that the titles are funny and relatable suggests that the magazine is aimed at layed back popular people at college.
Who would be the audience for your media product?
The magazine is aimed at college students.
How did you attract/address your audience?
Using bright colours, a cool font and the offer of food I tried to attract the audience of students. Keeping consistancy of font and bright colours I tried to keep the magazine looking interesting but simplistic so students would want to give their time to read it. Using the name '3period' was a pun on the term 'free period' so students can use the time that they arent in lesson, perhaps on a free, may read the magazine.
What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
I used photoshop to create my magazine so the process helped me understand the tools alot better, through trial and error I managed to use new effects and develop the appearance of my magazine. I also began to understand the importance of different layers in creating something as busy as a magazine, especially with the coverlines surronding the main focus (the cover star). This process developed my skills of photoshop and will hopefully increase my chances of acchieving a higher grade in the main project.
