Final work and evaluation

these are my final ideas for the cover and contents page
In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Features I used such as puffs and coverlines are used in common magazines, but I chose to use fewer coverlines so the magazine looked more simplistic and easy to understand, it was also less crowded, keeping the main interest on the cover model. I also chose to keep a consistant color scheme which also matched the cover model's clothing. Many magazines choose to keep a consistant color scheme to look more professional.

How does your media represent a particular social group?
By using a friendly, happy looking cover model, of the same age as the target audience I tried to show that the magazine is for everyone, by keeping a relaxed font and funny twist to the articles the target audience was plain to see, with articles such as 'top ten apps for college' it can be seen that the magazine is for students. Because the cover model is wearing a dress we see her feminine side but she also has her sleeves rolled up in a tom-boy-ish way, to help show the range of audience, so the idea that the titles are funny and relatable suggests that the magazine is aimed at layed back popular people at college.

Who would be the audience for your media product?
The magazine is aimed at college students.

How did you attract/address your audience?
Using bright colours, a cool font and the offer of food I tried to attract the audience of students. Keeping consistancy of font and bright colours I tried to keep the magazine looking interesting but simplistic so students would want to give their time to read it. Using the name '3period' was a pun on the term 'free period' so students can use the time that they arent in lesson, perhaps on a free, may read the magazine.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
I used photoshop to create my magazine so the process helped me understand the tools alot better, through trial and error I managed to use new effects and develop the appearance of my magazine. I also began to understand the importance of different layers in creating something as busy as a magazine, especially with the coverlines surronding the main focus (the cover star). This process developed my skills of photoshop and will hopefully increase my chances of acchieving a higher grade in the main project.

final draft

this is my final cover for 3period

first step

this is my first step in making the cover of 3period magazine

magazine features

masthead-
title, font, placed at top of magazine so when stacked, titles can be seen, colours linked to target audience

Tagline- near the masthead, maybe attatched, what the magazine is about and who its aimed at

central image- often someone to relate to or admire

magazine analysis

Q magazine
Title- originally called cue as in a record cue, but had to change in order to not be confused with the snooker magazine of the same name.
Mise en scene of image- the colours the cover stars are wearing match the colour scheme of the magazine,
lying down showing a laid back style, relaxed interview.
Paint to make them stand out from the white background.
Target audience- looking at the adverts the first thing seen is AOL broadband, so older people with families,
the next is for a gameboy showing it could be for younger people,
but then there is a lot of swearing in the magazine so it is for the older generation.
Editing techniques used-
cover stars over-lapping title, shows the main artcle is about them.
Continuous red white and black colour scheme.
Adverts that relate to content.
Double page spreads.

mock ups, first ideas

This first image is a pencil mock up of my first ideas for my college magazine, ideas may change but to start with I was thinking of having one image of two students, one male one female, so the face is split into two people.
This is the first idea for the contents page, the idea of the 'three' logo at the bottom will definately be used.
this is the plan for my double page spread
